Alpha test plan

Before you start: finish Install including the optional Screen Recording step (test 6 needs it). Download the presenter pack used by test 6:

Terminal window
mkdir -p ~/.config/keychord/packs
curl -fsSL -o ~/.config/keychord/packs/presenter.yml https://keychord.deemwar.com/packs/presenter.yml

Then add this test block to the end of your config (menu bar › Edit config) and save:

include:
- packs/presenter.yml
chords:
- keys: tf # test 2: fake login, nothing real
text: "alpha-tester{tab}not-a-real-password{enter}"
- keys: mn # test 3: Word
md: |
## Alpha test heading
- first bullet
- second bullet
| Name | Score |
|---|---|
| Ada | 9 |
- keys: xt # test 3: Excel
table: |
Name,Team,Score
Ada,Core,9
Linus,Mac,8
- keys: tk # test 5: privacy
text: "- [ ] ${last}"

If your config already has a chords: list, add only the entries under it, not a second chords: line. The menu bar should say Reloaded.

For each test, write the result on its Report line and send them with the form at the bottom (one report per test is ideal).

  1. Menu bar › Doctor… (or keychord doctor in Terminal).
  2. Open System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions.

Expected: every Doctor row is green (Accessibility, Input Monitoring, Screen Recording, Start at login, …). Login Items lists exactly one keychord.

Report 1: Pass / Fail · rows not green: ___ · keychord entries in Login Items: ___

2. Speed in TextEdit, and a browser login form

Section titled “2. Speed in TextEdit, and a browser login form”
  1. TextEdit › File › New. Hold ⌘⌥, type t, release. Do it five times.
  2. Open the test login form in Safari or Chrome. Click Username. Fire tf.

Expected: (1) keychord works ✓ appears the instant you release, every time — no visible delay, no stray t. (2) Username = alpha-tester, the cursor jumps to Password, it fills, and the form submits by itself: the page shows Received: alpha-tester, password of 19 characters.

Report 2: Pass / Fail · felt instant? yes / no · browser: ___ · form result line: ___

3. Word and Excel: real formatting, real cells

Section titled “3. Word and Excel: real formatting, real cells”
  1. Word › new Blank document. Fire mn.
  2. Excel › new Blank workbook, click cell A1. Fire xt.

Expected: (1) Word shows a real Heading 2 (check the Styles pane), a real bulleted list with two bullets, and a real 2-column table — no ##, - or | characters. (2) Excel fills A1:C3 with three columns, one value per cell; 0 and 9 are numbers (right-aligned).

Report 3: Pass / Fail · Word heading style: ___ · Excel cells filled: ___

4. Excalidraw boxes and arrow; PowerPoint circle

Section titled “4. Excalidraw boxes and arrow; PowerPoint circle”
  1. Open excalidraw.com in a new board. Press T, click, type login api, press Esc, then select the text element (or select the words while editing).
  2. Fire 2ra.
  3. PowerPoint › new Blank presentation, click an empty slide area. Fire c.

Expected: (2) the text becomes two boxes labelled login and api joined by an arrow; each box can be clicked, moved and restyled on its own (editable shapes, not one picture). ⌘Z brings the text back. (3) a circle appears on the slide (a picture; blank, since there’s no text).

Report 4: Pass / Fail · Excalidraw shapes editable? yes / no · PowerPoint circle? yes / no

  1. Open Notes, make a new note, type my private words. Don’t press Enter.
  2. Press ⌘Tab to switch to a new TextEdit document.
  3. Fire tk.

Expected: nothing is typed in TextEdit — no - [ ] line, and certainly not my private words. The note in Notes is unchanged. (Control check: type buy milk in TextEdit, fire tk → - [ ] buy milk.)

Report 5: Pass / Fail · anything typed in TextEdit? ___ · control check worked? yes / no

  1. With any app in front, fire b.

Expected: Thank you everyone appears large in the centre of the screen for about 4 s. The app you were in stays in front and keeps the keyboard. Without Screen Recording you get a basic caption (and Doctor shows Screen Recording as limited).

Report 6: Pass / Fail · caption centred & large? yes / no · focus stayed? yes / no

Done? Thank you. You can remove the test block from your config afterwards, or keep it.
